How Much Does Moroccan Zellige Cost?

Published on September 18, 2026

There is no single published price for Moroccan Zellige, for a simple reason: every order is handmade to order, in a chosen format, color and quantity. The price per square meter varies with several factors. Here is an honest overview of what really influences the cost — and what you should compare before choosing a supplier.

The Main Cost Factors

  • Format: our 5x5 cm tiles are slower to produce per square meter than 10x10 cm tiles, which is reflected in the price.
  • Color: classic colors are easier to batch, while custom or difficult tones can cost slightly more.
  • Quantity and MOQ: larger wholesale orders (see our wholesale page) enjoy better unit prices.
  • Handmade labor: each tile is shaped, glazed and fired by hand in Fez. Hand work costs more than machine production and this is exactly what gives Zellige its value.
  • Shipping: sea freight is the most economical for large volumes; express courier (UPS, DHL or FedEx) is used for small orders and samples.

Why Cheap "Zellige" Is Usually Not Zellige

If a price looks surprisingly low, check whether the tiles are really handmade in Fez. Machine-made resin or pressed "zellige-look" tiles are cheaper because they skip the artisan work — but they also skip the subtle color variation, the natural clay texture and the lustre that make real Zellige special. What Is Included in the Price

  • A proforma invoice with your exact m² and confirmed color.
  • Export-grade packaging designed for international transport.
  • Complete documents (packing list, commercial invoice, certificate of origin).
  • Optional production supervision and photo reports for large projects.

Budgeting the Extras

Apart from the tile itself, plan for: + approximately 10% extra material for breakage and waste, adhesive and grout, and freight to your country. Samples are sent free of charge (courier collection applies for the palette option).
